Dogs and Kids... pure craziness!
I was planning to write a blog post on outdoor pet photography but my thoughts got completely sidetracked. For those who do not know we share our home with three dogs and one 7-year old little girl named Mac. Some days Mac comes to the studio and sits (quietly??) in the lobby and does her school work or watches YouTube videos, or playes video games. I suspect there is more YouTube and games than school, but that is a post for another day. On this day Mac had been "helping" us and she and I were returning home. We walked in the door and our old, blind, deaf Shih Tzu was stretched out on the dog bed looking quite lifeless and well.... dead! I think every member of the family has been guilty of poking her to check for signs of life, or at the very least staring at her to see if she was still breathing
I turned to Mac and said, "You know, Zoey is very old and one day we will come home and she will be dead. Today may be the day."
Mac nodded in totally understanding and walked closer to the motionless lump on the bed, gazed down at her and said, "Rest in peace, Zoey!" She then and walked away. No emotion. No tears... just a premature statement of condolence and a sharp turn to the right and away she went. I suspect her ultra-rare ridable buffalo in Ro-Blocks needed feeding.
For the record, Zoey is not dead... well, she was not dead when I started writing this, but it has been a few minutes and she is an old dog. I wish I could say that Mac's rather cold approach to Zoeys (possible) passing was shocking, but it is not and in a way I think it might be my fault. Each night as we gather at the table I congratulate Zoey on another successful day by saying, "Hey Zo! Good job not dying today." I am preparing everyone, myself included for the day Zoey does not do such a "good job."
Maybe we will bring her into the studio for some indoor pet portraits...
