Boudoir Photography - FAQs
What is boudoir photography?
Boudoir photography is an intimate, artful type of photography, but just how intimate it gets depends on the model and the photographer. At Southern Exposures Photography we pride ourselves on a style of boudoir photography that empowers women and makes them feel classy and powerful. We believe that every woman is special and beautiful. We believe that it doesn't matter what size you are, what your skin color is, or how old you are.
We specialize in boudoir photography for all women. Boudoir photographs make a great wedding gift for your husband to be or a fabulous anniversary gift for your husband! Maybe you have been through something that has left external scars. Our style of boudoir photography will help you embrace the body you have and document your journey and your victory.
What if certain poses make me feel uncomfortable?
We always want you to feel comfortable and confident. You will largely dictate the style of your boudoir shoot. If you want to show less skin, that's totally fine. Your boudoir shoot will be what YOU want it to be. I'm just here to help get you what you want!
What should I wear?
Depending on what your goal is and your personal "why", you are really free to select your wardrobe without limitations. For bridal boudoir photo shoots, you might want to wear lingerie and feature your veil and possibly even your wedding dress, shoes, and bouquet.
Other items that make great for a great boudoir wardrobe would be any of the following:
- His favorite button up shirt
- His favorite "team" shirt and knee high socks
- His uniform (fireman, police, etc.)
- Sheer tops with a cute bra
- Off the shoulder, over-sized sweater
- Camisole, bras, panties
- Vintage slip
- Jeans and cut off t-shirt
- Nightgown
- Heels and stilettos
- Garter belt, stockings, corset
- Shawls
- Baby dolls and teddys
- Tight or flowing dresses
- Plaid or flannel button up shirt (tied) and low rise shorts for a Daisy Duke look
- Jewelry
Why is a boudoir photo shoot more expensive than a regular photo shoot?
A boudoir photo shoot requires more preparation, props, and a suitable location for this style of photography. We can assure you, you will find our studio an excellent choice for your boudoir shoot. We have special studio rooms specifically for intimate photography.
I am self conscious about certain areas of my body. can you work around those?
Of course! We want you to feel confident and we will work with you to avoid putting those problem areas on display. We also offer retouching to help with problem areas.
Can I bring someone with me?
Your are welcome to bring a friend with you for the makeup and hair portion of your session. We find that it is more chaotic to introduce additional persons into the actual photo shoot.
Is boudoir just for younger women with great figures?
No way! We shoot all women. We also are very passionate about empowering women who feel "less than" due to their size or emotional/physical scars from illness, domestic violence, cancer, drug abuse, etc.
Do you shoot couples or just women?
I don't personally feel it is appropriate that I shoot men, so I only shoot women. Because I feel strongly about it, this isn't negotiable.
Where will the photo shoot take place?
We have a two-story photography studio on the square in Calhoun City, MS. Boudoir photo shoots take place in two specific rooms upstairs that were specifically designed for boudoir photography. The lighting is incredible and we know you will be pleased!
Are hair and makeup included?
Hair and makeup aren't included in the price of your shoot., however, we can provide you with names to help you with that. We also have a dressing room and hair/makeup station so the person you choose can do it here if you both desire to do that.
How Long will the shoot take?
You can expect your photo shoot to last around 2 hours. If you have your hair and makeup done here at the studio, you will be allowed an hour for that for a total of 3 hours in the studio max.
I don't know anything about boudoir photography. will you guide me?
We will provide you with a guide that will be sent to you by email to help make sure you have everything you need for your photo shoot. This information will include everything from clothing to accessories.
When do I pay?
When you book your shoot, you will pay a non-refundable deposit ranging between $250 - $350 that will be deducted from your total which will be due before we begin your boudoir photo shoot. The grand total ranges from $550 - $700 depending on which package option you choose.
If you find you require a personalized package that would differ from what you see here, I'm open to discussing your needs and putting together something special for you.
What is your refund policy? can I reschedule?
We understand life happens! You are allowed to reschedule once, and you can reschedule up to 14 days before your shoot. Appointments can't be rescheduled during the two week window before your shoot. Because we have blocked off our calendar for you, no refund is given at any time. When you sign the contract, I’m blocking that time on my appointment book. I’m also turning away people interested in shooting that day.
Due to the custom nature of photography, the session fee and anything you purchase is non-refundable. I am committed to working with you to ensure you love your photos. You’ll have final say on all retouching and you’ll see all album layouts before they go to print.
